Do You Have the Guts for This?

We talk on our blogs alot about having the Heart of the Artist, and the Soul of a Songwriter, but what we're going to get into today is the tougher issue.

Do you have the guts to get your music and ministry out there? Do you have the fortitude to work your butt off to get your music produced right, packaged correctly, and promoted out to your audience?

And before you click off this blog rolling your eyes thinking we've gone a bit too far, consider this.

“For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.”- 2 Timothy 1:7

Oh, he did not just go there. Oh yes I did girl.

God did not give us talents, gifts, and abilities to sit idly by with excuses about time, work, and video game commitments. He gave them to us to USE them.

I see hundreds of people a year who have the heart for this, and even the talent. But only a small percentage of them have the sheer willpower and tenacity to see things through to the actual stage where they have a music product and actively promote it.

There are tens of thousands of people in every area that think they can sing. We witness that every year with American Idol tryouts. But that's easy, you just show up at a stadium and wait your turn to sing.

But it takes a special person to contact someone they have never met in Nashville or some other music center and be serious enough about getting to a whole new level with your music.

Here are some more words: courage, perseverance, moxie, boldness, fearlessness, resoluteness. Got any of these?

These are what you will need for what God has for you to do if you feel called to music ministry.

Got guts?

Then get going.

Have a great week!

2 Timothy 1:7 is one of my favorites and one I raised my children on. I think there is another component to this too and that is time. Yes you have to work very hard and it is not overnight! It has taken me 7 years to write a song good enough that the "market" gave me some positive feedback. To all of you out there Eric is 100% right so let's do this thing! Thanks for another great message.

We took the plunge last year, and we went "all in" on our first project. We invested the money and time to join with Eric Copeland and Creative Soul Records, and we have no regrets! The quality of our project and first CD is beyond what we could have dreamed. It's so worth it! We had a fantastic summer kick off tour, and God exceeded our expectations in every way. We look forward to seeing what God has in store for us in the next year!

Great post Eric.
I write this note from an RV parked in a church parking lot somewhere in the Litchfield Hills of Connecticut. Just a few months ago, I was in Sacramento, CA getting prepared to “take it to the streets” and it was just a little over a year ago that “We” completed “our project” together.

What I learned from working with you and the rest of the team that you assembled was the final component that I needed to “take the plunge”. You not only helped me create a stellar album, you imparted into me the confidence to believe in it.

I always knew that I was called to sing and I always dreamed I was called to go from town to town, church to church and sing the “gifts” He gave to me. But when I left Nashville to begin this journey, the two became one and the dream became my reality.

Is it easy! HECK NO!

It is the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I’ve had to step up and do my own marketing. I’ve had to step up and manage my own time. I’ve had to step up and go the distance when I really didn’t want too. But what I’ve noticed most of all is that “the water didn’t move until they put their feet in it”.

It was when I stepped into Sunset Blvd studios with you and Steve on that very first day… my own waters of fear began to recede... And the last day after recording an absolutely fabulous album… I then noticed I was walking on dry ground!

So how is it going? I’m sitting in an RV parked in a church parking lot somewhere in the Litchfield Hills of Connecticut preparing to sing my songs and give my testimony again.

And next week…another church in another town… and the following week… (just click repeat!)

What a great adventure I have…It’s called “My Life”. Thank you!
